Sometimes, I sit down with a pen or open a blank doc and just… pause. The page is quiet. My thoughts are loud. My heart is unsure. I don’t know what I’m feeling, exactly — only that something inside wants to speak.
So I start.
Not with answers, but with a question. Not with a neat story, but with the tiniest spark of curiosity. And I let that be enough.
I don’t know what this feeling is, but it’s heavy and quiet and sitting right behind my ribs.
I think it might be a mix of tired and tender.
Or maybe it’s just the pause after too much doing.
Maybe I don’t need to name it. Just notice it. Just sit with it. Just breathe.
When You’re Not Sure What to Say
If you’re in that blurry, murky middle too — where feelings are real but hard to pin down — try writing like this. No pressure. No rules. Just noticing.
Here are a few gentle prompts that help me:
- Right now, I feel…
- I’m not sure if this is sadness or something else, but…
- My body feels…
- If I could draw this feeling, it would look like…
- I want to tell someone…
Some days the words don’t flow, and that’s okay. Even sitting with a pen and breathing on purpose counts. The page will wait.
You don’t need to understand everything to write it down. You don’t need to fix it or define it or make it poetic. You just need to show up.
And maybe — in that showing up — a little light will peek through.
